A long day

While my mind is still partially occupied with the subject of the previous post (I can blame all the news and music sites/channels for it, can’t I?), I’m barely close to the halfway point of this five-day weekend. Yep. Another one. So, here’s the first half, or maybe one third, of the photos from June 5th’s awesome great long, annoying blackout.

With nothing to do but photograph a window ...Bottomless pit? Nah.Unused seating area on the roof.A view of the ever-growing neighborhood. The only way up or down? I think so!

The power went out around 9:30 in the morning. As I generally don’t wake up at such an hour, especially on an off day (no college on Fridays!), those first few hours didn’t bother me much. As our backup power doesn’t last very long unless we turn everything off, I couldn’t do much of anything. So, I grabbed the old camera. After a few shots of my bedroom window, and having nothing else to do, I got bored and went up to the roof to capture the view.

The seating area gets some natural light from above.A small bathroom, probably never gets used. The bathroom is inaccessible thanks to this. One of the three back stairwells in the building. When in doubt, photograph some flowers.

After making several photos of the view and things I found interesting on the top of this old building, I went downstairs again and photographed the patio (again). I was so very bored that day.

Phoebe stares at something.Even Kondoleza was getting bored.Droopy is either yawning or yelling.Running out of daylight!

Once I got enough photos, I sat in the living room, waiting patiently for the power to come back, as I did the last time. The power company was supposedly fixing some things ever since the morning (“fixing something” is usually their excuse for the longer outages) and they said the power would be back by 5:30 or so, but at that time, something went wrong. Very wrong.

Slowly, the day turned into night.

you suffer from too many power outages, but at least you have something to do. I’d be staring at the walls thinking miserable things. Your place/roof looks very exotic and homey. Seriously, I wish I could thank god that no one uses that bathroom (probably) lol, but it’s cute in a fixer upper way.
That’s a scary angle you took the bottomless pit hallway picture at. That doesn’t look like a fun hallway to walk down! Phoebe, looks funny in the third picture, your dogs have much character. btw, I googled Phoebe only to find it means a lot more things than the character off of Pokemon, so why did you name her Phoebe? and you really can’t leave me hangin’ on this question and I’ve just referenced pokemon showing my beyond dork credentials!

I had no idea that there was a Phoebe in Pokémon. My sister named her after the Friends character.
I see how it could be a hallway, but it is indeed a bottomless pit. Okay, not really bottomless, but the fall would hurt, with the whole concrete bottom thing. The second (smaller) one doesn’t seem to have a way out, other than climbing back up! I had to get down a bit and look over the (very low) wall to get those photos. I’ve got an issue with heights … and falling!
The world roof would be a better place if they added fences or something around it (it’s scary to walk near the edges) and if they tidied up all those wires that are all over the floor. And the “pits” … they should cover them up or something. Those things are deadly!

Wow, I should have really been able to think of Phoebe=Friends thing now that I think about it. Fences on roofs!? What next? Fences on state and country borders, cause that’s what it’ll lead to. Plus no fences, “pits” and wires add to the adventurous thing your place has going on. Just think arcade game, if you fall in a pit that’s -500 points, no one wants to lose points when trying to achieve high score. I love heights, something relaxing about it, you just have to put your faith in mother nature to not produce strong gusts of wind when you’re standing on the edge.

Yeah, but there are no extra lives if you fall :/
I haven’t had the best of luck, so I can’t even count on me! No edges, no edges …

I remember having a huge, regional blackout a few years ago. I actually loved it. When it started getting dark, people were just out on their porches, talking, meeting neighbors they hadn’t taken the time to meet before. I just sat there with my guitar.

I’d like them a bit if they were less frequent, but we’ve had this evil power deficit for decades, and the tropical weather (the heat!) doesn’t help at night.
The only time I remember our neighbors getting together was after hurricane Georges when they all helped clean up the place and would talk to each other while getting water from the only available (working) source, a small faucet.

Phoebe is kinda naughty, Kondolezza is matured & Droopy is lazy. These dogs made my day. Thank You
