Crash and burn, again

Wow, it seems like the fiery wreck I posted about yesterday got some good “amateur media” coverage, with pictures, and even a video:

(don’t mind the talking if you’re not Dominican, just watch)

Apparently, it wasn’t a public transport vehicle like I thought it was (there’s not much difference between a fiery wreck and the typical public transport car), but rather an SUV-type thing. I was right about one thing, though. It seems the fire was caused by a fault in the propane gas system.

I found the video funny to watch, because the fire department arrived when all that was left was a burnt car skeleton. I guess we can’t count much on them if the stove catches on fire, can we? We’d all die, waiting patiently.

Oh, yeah. That plotter thing just won’t happen, it seems. I called earlier, asking if they had fixed the problem, but they haven’t. Oh, well. At least I’ve got the samples, and a card from them for proof. I tried, I really tried.

Off to class I go.

Crash and burn

Seems my health problems are receding a bit, which is good. I’ve got work to deliver in less than three hours that I haven’t even started yet, which is bad.

Today, I was supposed to print some stuff on a cutting plotter. The only place we went to (my father and I), this afternoon, had some software-related problems, and my time was short (I’ve got work to do, shouldn’t be writing this!), so I decided to just wait until tomorrow morning. If the problems aren’t fixed by tomorrow, I’ll just have to explain to the teacher guy and hope he understands. It’s difficult to go around asking about this plotter stuff, and to find one near you.

So, I’ll have done two out of three works for tomorrow. The other two involve getting samples of materials used in plotting, and finding out requirements for a design that is to be printed with a plotter. Done, I think. The guy at that place we went to was nice enough to give me free samples of several materials, and I can find the other thing online.

It’s funny that one of the few universities that gives a degree in graphic design doesn’t have a workshop for this type of thing. Not that I’m asking for a Bauhaus, but it’d be nice to not have to go all around the city for services that should be taught and provided there.

Oh, yes. The title of this post. As I walked down the avenue today, I saw some traffic officers doing their job right, as they should (for a change), diverting car transit away from the last block that I have to walk on the way home. As I started going down the block, I saw a fire truck and several people gathered around something. I couldn’t quite tell what it was until I walked right next to it: a car had been involved in some sort of “accident” and its gas tank had burst into flames, burning the whole thing down to an old charred chassis, with blackened propane gas tank near it (propane is a popular alternative to gasoline here, especially in public transport).

Now, I say “accident” with quotation marks because, well, being a public transportation car, I can’t quite be sure as to whether this was completely accidental or just the good old usual reckless driving often seen by those transport guys. At least there didn’t seem to be any casualties in this case. I can’t really tell unless I see it on the paper tomorrow, but there were no ambulances, and there were no mentions of fatalities from the gathering crowd. Oh, well.

Yikes. Look at the time. It’s already past 6:00 p.m., and I’ve got a class at 8:00. I’ve got to get started on that thing. The deadline is supposed to be Monday, but I hate going to class empty-handed. Hate it! Happened to me on Tuesday last week, so I felt more out of place than I usually do.

Off to work, I go. Hi-ho, hi-ho.
